Child poverty rises again

Finally DWP has published its annual HBAI report. It shows that between 05/06 and 06/07 100,000 more children have ended up in poverty. The total is now at 2.9 million, far off from the 2010 goal. The reason is not quite clear but will be revealed at tomorrow's IFS seminar.

It is quite clear however that the ca 4bn pounds proposed will not be enough to reach the 2010 target, something more like 6 or 7 bn pounds, anticipating the reverse effects of recession, will be needed.
