Child poverty 06/07

In March DWP will publish the new child poverty figures for 2006/7. In the previous year they had to report a 100k increase in the poverty count. This is hugely disappointing since the government is committed to halve child poverty by 2010 from the 98/99 level.

BRIC countries catching up

Goldman Sachs has singled out BRIC countries as the GDP leaders of the future. A look at the forecasts reveals China will be number 3 overtaking Germany in 2008. Furthermore, India will overtake Korea and be closer to Russia with its vast natural resource wealth. Russia will also overtake Brazil.

Microsoft buying Yahoo

This is a quite interesting chart - Microsoft and Yahoo over the last year. Both have finished were they started off, mainly thanks to Microsoft's offer which has knocked MSFT and lifted YHOO. The premium Microsoft offers for Yahoo seems massive, but the position will be strategic mainly vs Google.
